Walterboro was a great time. We renewed a few acquaintances and made a few new ones. We lined up together but that did not last long. I rode the 62 mile route and most did the 33. All was well until I got lost not once but twice. The first time I get easily back on course but the second I just wondered around in the flatlands of SC. Finally got back on track but did turn the ride into a 64 mile ride. Here we are at the starting line ready to roll.

It was a cold dark....... no wait that is another story. But Friday started out just like that but add rain and more rain. Most of the community ride was rained out but a few of us did make it to 1st Ward School for Performing Arts in Charlotte. All of the cold and misery of the day was gone when we saw the kids lined up to greet us. It was once again such a heartwarming site to see and meet all of these kids. No matter how cold we had been this was worth it. The program they put on was great and the teachers and staff were so welcoming. We ended the day with a short ride to the main campus of CPCC where we had lunch and called it a day, a very wet and cold day. Saturday was still cloudy but not raining and although the weather scare off quite a few we still had 70 or so riders. The new routes had just been finished and although two of my favorite places were gone because of flooding and or washed out bridges everyone commented on the quality of the routes. KPMG came out strong with a 10 rider team and Cadwallader joined us with 6 riders. The routes were fairly evenly split as far as riders go and everyone had great things to say about the day despite the weather. Two Chicks and a Truck provided the catering this year and it was excellent, thanks to you two gals for the great food. Our sponsor this year was Unilever Corporation and we would like to thank them for everything. Lastly but not least Honor the Warriors would like to thank all of the riders who came out to support the event.
Swamp Rabbit Trail 2018, Greenville SC.
June 23, 2018 by honorthewarriors We will once again ride this great trail. It is an old rail bed so the elevation is minimal. Lunch was at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and it was great. Thanks to Leah at Pedal Chic for all of the advanced co-ordination. The Travelers Rest FD greeted us as we came into town with Old Glory waving proudly. Great ride and even better people. Cabarras Brewery 329 McGill Ave NW - Concord 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm Cabarras Brewery Take-over / Fundraiser for HTW and Camp 4 Heroes - We had all day at the brewery. Friends and supporters from all over came and had the best food I have ever had at an event this size. During the day 4 different bands played live music, thanks to the Undercover Owls, Maggie Eldridge, the Mint Hillbillies and a special thanks to John T Woodall. Looks like we need to do this again next year so keep an eye out here for tickets and we will keep you informed. Don't forget to join us in October for our 9th Annual HTW Bike Event. Another fantastic gathering of "funny bikes". I have made this rally every year but 1 and do not plan on missing another. The rides along the river and up to Tremont are just more fun every year. This year with Tom F, John F, and I rode up out of Cade's Cove and had an exhilarating 6 mile descent. Way too fast but don't tell our wives. Here are a few pics from the rally, some by us and some taken by others posted on the facebook page originally. Enjoy!!
Great day at the Camp. Hosted by Cpt Woody and a bit cold but what a great place to rest and recover. This has become an annual meeting for us and I hope it will remain as a gathering place for Heroes! Thanks, Kay, John T, Woody and Charlie for making us feel so welcome.
July 11, 2017 By honorthewarriors October 27 and 28th are days you needed to mark on your calendar. I hope this year’s will be the biggest event yet. Our first day of will begin in Eastway Park in Charlotte, NC. We will ride through Downtown with stops at various points of interest, including an elementary school, Panther’s Stadium, and if time permits, the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Lunch will be provided at Central Piedmont Community College followed by a trip down Sugar Creek Greenway to Freedom Park. From there we will ride through some of the residential areas of Charlotte to Hawthorn Academy where we will speak to the gathered students. The ride will end back at Eastway Park.
March 21, 2017 By honorthewarriors The Warriors just spent this past weekend exploring the Swamp Rabbit Trailfrom Greenville, to Travelers Rest SC. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet and renew old friendships with SC Warriors. Sue D really came through with donations from Sabal Homes, DAV Greenville, and GE Veterans Greenville. Because of their generosity we all had a place to sleep, lunch and a Saturday night burgers and dogs on the grill dinner. |
