Wow! The 6th Annual Bike Event has come and gone but it will not be soon forgotten. This was definitely one of the best rides we have hosted and it seems the reviews are unanimous. There are not many still shots of the beginning but the link above is a great little video put together by Joe Nester. We began in Eastway Park and rode through Charlotte. We did have a brief unscheduled stop for maintenance but otherwise the ride was great.
Our first official stop was at Invest Collegiate Transform School and the kids were so e
xcited. They had a program set up for us and my breath was taken away. These wonderful boys and girls sang to us and just generally went out of their way to show their appreciation for our Warriors.
Lunch was as always provided by the Central Piedmont Community College Veteran’s Affairs office. It was hosted in front of the Overcash Building on main campus. The folks who were there were fantastic and could not do enough to help the Warriors. After a rest we rode the Sugar creek Greenway to Freedom Park and after a quick photo stop we made it to The Military Global Leadership Academy at Marie G Davis. The entire school turned out to cheer us on and it was greatly appreciated in the heat of the day. Our final event for the day was to address the senior cadets at the school. Several of us spoke and as you can imagine there were many questions. We answered as many as we had time for but eventually had to say goodbye to our young cadets and head back to the hotel.
Our escorts for the day were the Motor Unit from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department and I can not thank them enough for their service and support.
