Meet Joey Funderburk. He is a fine young man that chance brought into our lives. While trying to get donations for the upcoming Sep 9 and 10th rides Deb pointed out that the man behind the counter across the store had 2 prosthetic legs. I had to talk to him. Joey’s story is one of a fighter and a young man with the emotional strength of many. Here is a link for his story.
Now that you have watched the video and probably dried your tears know that tears shed for Joey are truly tears of joy. He is an unbelievable young man and we are privileged to have him in our lives and as a part of our team. Joey is our first Community Warrior. He has overcome tremendous odds and has through it all become a fine husband, friend and a Warrior. He was unable to make the wonderful gift of a bicycle work for him so here is where we step in. HTW had a hand trike donated to us so that we could pass it along to someone who might be in need of it. Joey is the guy! Our meeting must have been guided by a power that I do not fully comprehend but there is no doubt that we were meant to meet each other.
Two weeks ago we were able to put Joey on his hand crank trike and the joy was clearly visible in his face as he pushed his way around the neighborhood. We rode until his arms got tired and then we rode some more. He took the trike home that night and when I spoke to him Monday he had already put 6 miles on it. Keep going Joey, join us whenever you can. You are always welcome.
